Very happy with itself, memory manufacturer Elpida has just announced that it finished work on 50nm process DDR3 SDRAM.
With this achievement the company will soon be able to build new memory chips that are smaller, have the lowest power consumption in the industry and top speeds of 2.5 Gbps.

Made with the "industry's most advanced" 193nm (ArF) immersion lithography technology, the 50nm DDR3 will have operating voltages of 1.2V, 1.35V and 1.5V and will be available at speeds of 800Mbps, 1066Mbps, 1333Mbps, 1600Mbps, 1866Mbps, 2133Mbps and 2500Mbps.

Elpida is expecting to start mass producing 50nm DDR3 memory in the first quarter of 2009.
