A-Data has begun to display brand new fully buffered, FB-DIMM modules. FB-DIMM was proposed by Intel as a new memory interface using a serial architecture. The main advantage is the shorter data path, and enabling more memory slots on a system, increasing both performance and maximum capacities. What you see displayed here are 240-pin, 1GB FB-DIMM modules.

Like Infineon, Kingston's main new entry to their memory product family tree is the FB-DIMM modules for the very latest server class hardware designs. Some advantages of going with the FB-DIMM paradigm is the easier design on the motherboard end resulting in cost savings since it utilizes a serial point-to-point link technology. On the memory arena itself, FB-DIMMs can cater up to six memory channels, support eight dual-rank memory modules (double sided) and offers up to four times better peak bandwidth than current server-class DDR 2 modules.
