Intel ha rivelato che il suo futuro chipset di fascia media, nome in codice Ibex peak, si chiamerà P55.
Esso sarà il successore dell'attuale P45, supporterà le CPU Lynnfield quad core e dovrebbe supportare anche le cpu Havendale dual core con IGP integrata.
Questo nuovo chipset contribuirà ad abbassare il costo della nuova piattaforma Nehalem, e supporterà il socket 1160 ed alcune nuove tecnologie come l'Intel Active Management Technology 6.0, Intel Anti-Theft Technology, Intel Remote PC Assist Technology.
L'uscita ufficiale è prevista per il Q3 2009, anche se per avere una buona disponibilità bisognerà aspettare l'inizio del Q4.
